Starting from Scratch
I'm kinda new to aftermarket audio products and I need a little help. If you are starting from scratch and want to get to a sick audio system how much does it take. I'm not exactly sure what I need. Obviosly a reciever, subs, enclosures. But do you need an amp? do you need smaller speakers to replace the stocks? How much money would you be looking at? Any help would be great, Thnx.

Re: Starting from Scratch
completely depends on your definition of "sick"
competition-level in SQ? probably around $3-4k, plus a BUNCH of time fiberglassing, tuning, etc competition-level in SPL? depends on your class, but if you didn't focus on the front stage you could probably do well in one of the lower classes for under $2k, plus a lot of time designing and building boxes/wall street beater SQL? maybe $1500-4000, again all depends on how far you want to go simple system that's better than stock and includes sub(s)? $800 or so

Re: Starting from Scratch
headunit - $300
front components - $3-400 front stage amp - $300 sub - $3-400 sub amp - $300 wiring - $100 box supplies - $50 deadening - $50 total - $1700-$1900 This is for a VERY well rounded system, if you wanted you could add some cheap rear coaxs for under $100, to give you a little ambiance, but I would try it without them first to see if you even need rear speakers.

Re: Starting from Scratch
true, it's not that hard though, and you don't have to be an audio genius to be able to build a wooden box
If you're not comfortable making your own, you would probably want one custom built for you, which will range from $100-$200 depending on what you want.
