Trouble starting after setting for 4 days

My 85 gets driven 140-150 miles roundtrip 5 days a week, all highway.
I didn't work thursday-sunday of this week and it sat untouched.

I went out monday morning to head off for work and she wouldn't kick over. I cranked it so many times the battery went dead.
After returning from work, driving my other car, I set out to try again.
Again nothing.
I hooked up my jumper cables and let it charge for a while.
Finally it started but only after cranking on it for 20-30 seconds with my foot on the floor.
While cranking it sputtered alot like it wasn't getting any gas, but I visually checked the carb and everything was fine.
I shut it off and restarted it a few times with no prob. although my belts were squeeking something terrible

Whats the deal?????????????

Re: Trouble starting after setting for 4 days

Your belts are loose and the alternator can't spin fast enough to keep the battery charged.

Get new belts. Charge the battery (get a battery charger).

If the belts look like they're in good condition (no cracks, not stiff or glazed) then try tightening them first before you buy new ones.

Y'know, if you're actually cranking and it's not starting, my guess is you're either flooding it OR the carb bowl is emptying over the course of several days.

Guys I think I'm going to have to go with Tommy here.
Since I got it started it hasn't done it again. Actually I've only had to pump it once in the morning, hit the key and BAM it's ready to go.
So in conclusion, after setting for 4-7 days always pump it a few extra times to fill the carb bowls with fresh fuel.

Happens to me all the time. Didn't when it was new, but that was 20 years and 367,800 miles ago
