99 Maxima engine light

I have '99 maxima with engine light on. Auto Zone tells me it
is "ignition system misfiring - P1320". Need to get it repaired, but
I don't want to spend $$ for an "analysis"..... do I need to simply
get a tuneup? Has 60,000 miles on it. I'm a female and don't
want to be taken advantage of by repairman!! Thanks!

I had exactly the same problem and I solved it by the following steps:

1) Buy a set of six spark plugs (Bosch platinium is fine, don't pay 6 times more for NGK), which cost you $12 from all 6 (Autozone).

2) Maxima has individual coils. Unscrew each coil and take them out. Important Note: Don't mix the coils to recall which one is going to which cylinder.

3) unscrew the spark plugs and check for grease accumulations on them. Again don't mix the plugs and now that you are taking the out it is better to change them with new plugs. If you see a greasy plug it means that that specific cylinder has ignition problem. Now that you insert a new plug this problem cannot be from plug itself. Again remember which plug was greasy and assemble coils in place and start the car.

4) when 5 out of six cylinder fire, you smell unburnt fuel at exhaust but if changing the plug take care of it you have a clean exhaust.

5) If the problem is still there, malignition is because of the coil of that specific cylinder. Front coils are shorter than rear coils.

6) Goto www.maximumautoparts.com and order the coil for $72 including shipment.

7) change the faulty coil and I promise you will have a big smile on your face then.

8) Don't hesitate to ask any questions [email protected]

Re: 99 Maxima engine light

coil is a good possibility, hopefully it will set a misfire code code cylinder specific soon. there was also a harness issue by the passenger strut tower. have your tech give the harness a wiggle test. dont be shy, the wiggle test works well. also look for a loose connection at the ecm,
