Did I Destroy the Finish on My Alloy Wheels????

I just bought a 97 Silverado with the 16" alloys. I sprayed on wheel cleaner made for clear finish wheels and sprayed Bleche-Wite to clean the tires (careful not to get it on the wheels too much).

When I sprayed the stuff off at the car wash, the finish on the alloys was streaked and white and doesn't come off! I have done the same exact thing with the same wheels on another truck and it was fine.

Is there any product that will help this?

Barry

Same thing happened to mine. Get some good quality auto wax and polish them up and they will be fine.

Re: Did I Destroy the Finish on My Alloy Wheels????

God - I hope that's what happened. The truck is beautiful black with new LT305-70-16s and had brake dust on fronts. Imagine my horror when I'm ready for them to look perfect and they look like they're ruined...

I'll try tonight (in the 20 deg. dark night)

Thanks,

Barry

Re: Re: Did I Destroy the Finish on My Alloy Wheels????

I just went to the auto parts place, looked at aluminum wheel polish, and had the choice of Mothers ("not recommended for coated metals") and Blue Magic, which had no such warning.

I punted because I'm gun-shy about making a bad problem worse. Won't an abrasive just scratch the clearcoat? What kind of polish/wax should I use?

Thanks

I just used the same wax I use on the truck itself because they are both clear coated.

Don't ever use a cleaner/degreaser with sodium hydroxide in it, for aluminum. I found out the hard way. Oh and mothers mag aluminum polish is good stuff (but you will be scrubbing your ass off) your fingers will be hurting.

I was about to say.... go for the mothers mag polish.. that stuff is incredible. Any and all impurities will be gone. Including impurities that are supposed to be there... lol. I accidentally polished the "Silverline" logo right off my dual exhaust tips on my old car... whoops!
