starter help please

need to pull the starter i think the bendix spring is broke.

1997 jetta 2.0 5 speed black what other color is there..

any advice or how too's I have a Haynes repair book but it blows.

Re: starter help please

Disconnect battery, then starter wires. There are two main bolts that hold the starter in place the heads are on the starter side & run through to the engine mount. They can be a pain to get all the way back through to the welded nut, you might have to move the engine back & forth to do it.

Thanks... it still starts but is making a strange noise disingages fine
if i can get brushes I will rebuild it otherwise off to the junkyard
$45.00 pulled seem fair . so disconect battery damm wheres the radio codes.. also is the solinoid part of the starter on those.

again thanks. I was just thinking the last time i had a VW Is when I started buying tools (1975 ish ) 68super beatle still have the tools wish I had the old repair manual it was like the hippy guide to VW repairs and much better the the ones they sell now. would post a picture but not sure how.
