1996 Camaro EGR Valve

Have a 96 Camaro w/3.8 codes "EGR Pintle Position Circuit" P1406.
Does this mean a bad EGR Valve?? Removed the Valve and Cleaned with chemical cleaner. Didn't appear that it had much carbon. Problem I'm experiencing is an intermittent miss. Any clues??

96 camaro 3.8

I'm having the exact same problem, except no error code. My has an intermittent miss to it. Driving down the road and it will just start sputtering, it seems to be worse since it rained( more moisture in the air). What I was told by mechanics and other camaro owners, was bad plug wires. I replaced the plugs and wires and it didn't seem to help at all, in fact it has gotten worse. Hopefully somebady knows what it is. I had about 5 camaro owners tell me about the plug wires, so you might give that a try Fishman, it might work for you!

EGR Valve? P1406 code

Fishman,

My son's Camaro has the same problem as yours. Did you end up changing the EGR valve or was it some other problem?
His car has an occassional sputter, especially after first starting, but, not all the time.

...or if anyone else has an idea, please respond.

Thanks

Re: 1996 Camaro EGR Valve

I finally got mine fixed. it was the ignition module. i had people tell me that's what it was and I didn't believe them. I thought was those, they either worked or they didn't. I didn't know that they could be all flacky like that. I picked one up at the salvage yard for $15, and it was a piece of cake to install. hope this helps!

Re: 1996 Camaro EGR Valve

That code means there is a problem in the circuit that monitors the valve position, or the valve itself. A stuck open EGR valve will cause a lower than normal idle(700 RPM w/ an automatic) and a misfire. It would be advised to buy a used/clean EGR valve if you find yours defective, because a new one can go for around $150 new.
