Unhappy Oil pressure

When I come to a stop at a red light or stop sign, my oil pressure gauge moves down really low, almost to the warning zone. But when I accelerate it goes back to normal. What does that mean when the oil pressure goes low? I also hear this knocking sound coming from the back end when I stop. Did I somehow bend my muffler or knock it loose and this is causing the noise? I know it's not straight because one of the pipes is against the white part of where the pipes stick out (sorry I don't know what that's called.) Do I need to get this fixed or is that ok but just annoying? Thanks!

Re: Oil pressure

Do you have a oil light come on?... if not then its normal. Oil pressure will always rise when you accelerate... as for your knock... if might be in your brakes for i had a problem for a few weeks now after changing my drums... i have way over tightend the nuts and it was causing the brakes to be forced against the brake wall and they were knocking with braking hard... so if you tightend them by hand, they may be too loose...

My oil light never turns on, so I don't have anything to worry about right? And I haven't ever tightened or loosened anything up on my car. So, did I knock something loose by running something over or is it nothing to worry about?

Re: Oil pressure

Mine has the same problem. The gauge used to dip so low that the "Check Engine light would come on.

I replaced the sensor and now it only dips as low as 20 once warm.

The weird part is that it started doing it almost overnight about a year ago????

You said yours was doing the same thing, so is it nothing to worry about or should I go get it checked out? I don't have any lights come on though. Does the oil pressure always drop when you come to a stop?

It should be OK. If it's dropping below 20 then you might want to look into having the sensor replaced (It's behind the engine, under the air intake on the older 2.2s).
