200SX shutting off

I have a 96 Nissan 200sx and I cannot figure out what is wrong with it. If I am not pressing the gas pedal the car sometimes shuts off. The RPMS will lower really quick and the car stalls. If the car is about to stall, I can slam on the gas and usually revive it if I do it fast enough. I have replaced several parts like the fuel pump, alternator with no change. While idling at a red light, I find myself pressing both the break and gas pedals just to make sure it will not stall. I have taken my car to several mechanics and they just want to guess at it and change everything under the hood instead of actually figuring out what's wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

If this is the FWD Sentra version of the 200SX, get the hell out. If it's the non-USDM RWD 200SX, then sound like your timing is off.

Also, it's RPM, not RPMS, even plural.

Question Timing

I don't think it has anything to do with timing because it's not a constant thing?

Sometimes, when the timing is a little off, you'll get a rough idle, it might even stall at idle, but the rest of the time it's fine.

Re: 200SX shutting off

yea my s13 has the same problem.. but it only happens when the heater is on. The idle drops and occasionally will die out...

pretty disgusted by it since it never happened before... but then again it's only been 3 months since i got the car...

The vacuum line seemed just fine. As for the idle, I never really have a rough idle; it goes from perfect to 0 in one drop of the needle. Seems to be a mystery... I appreciate the help, if you all have any more idea please let me know. Thanks!

Re: 200SX shutting off

try replacing your Throttle Position Sensor, if this is off or bad, it has a broblem iddling. And yes, double check on the vacum lines.
