15 second quarter mile times with a 5spd. higher with an automatic. Define 'fast'.

They're only like .20 slower in the 1/4.Drivers error can make up for that at the track.

Not for an 01 gt.Those times are for pre 99's.A 99-04 gt is in the 14's.
Manual, auto or convertible it doesn't matter.

Drivers skill plays an important role too.

It would be close but I would have to go with the Z28.

i'd only go for a automatic if i wanted to go 8 sec 1/4 mile or faster.. or possibly a 9 too.. although.. automatics are nice for spraying out of the whole if you're going with a nitrous kit setup

automatics aren't bad though if you put a good stall on them and put on a shift kit

If the firebird is stock and you can drive your 6 speed decent you should beat him.

Im starting to notice that converitbles are starting to get slammed pretty good around here. Let me just state for the record the stock for stock the difference in weight between a convertible and a coupe is about 180lbs. Significant yes does that mean that you will beat one because he is a convertible no. There are two many things that can be done to the convertible to even the playing field without even touching the motor. So don't get to comfortable when you pull up next to one, you may find yourself going home with your tail between your legs.
