Crate Engine in a 91 Camaro

My friend wanted me to ask on here about this. He just bought a 91 Camaro for like $900 the body is near perfect and the engine is there but doesn't run at all. He's not sure whether it has 305 or a 350 but it's a V-8 for sure. What he wants to do is buy this engine from Jegs. How hard would it be going from all the fuel injection stuff to carb??? Is it as simple as yanking most of the electronics out??? Sorry if this is a Noob question. TIA.

Well your buddy has good taste 2 get a camaro. Its not hard 2 change over 2 a carb. And by the way it's a 305 in the car.Just buy a 350 or 383 what ever's in your price range, drop it in .Buy a MSD 6,^A,or6AL to run your ignition.Get a fuel pressure reg ,because the electric pump has 2 much pressure for a carb, set it between 3 to 5 lbs.

Re: Crate Engine in a 91 Camaro

well the engine is a direct swap, however why you would run flat tappet lifters instead of a hydrolic roller setup like the car originally came with. as far as power and cost, its a great choice though.

as far as swapping from fuel injection to a carb, its pretty darn easy, but why the hell would ya want to??? fuel injection offers better power, better fuel economy, lower emissions, and smoother operation. i would just get the replacement engine, with hydrolic roller cam and lifters, and bolt it in directly where your engine is now, complete with fuel injection and electronics.

Re: Crate Engine in a 91 Camaro

im with 89, my brother had his carb'd trans am's engine re-built with all new parts and when its cold out the car doesnt want to run right, and he is thinking of putting a tbi setup on the motor. i like carb'd engines cause they can be simple and cheaper and easier to tune, but they can also become out of wack and as 89 said the FI will run smoother and give better power.
