Indiglos

Alright, I got my hands on some Indiglo gauges for my 96 civic. Before attemping the DIY I would like to get a heads up of the troubles I may come into, how to prevent breaking the needles (that would suck horribly), where's a good spot to spot the buttons to change the shade of the color, and even how to do the install.

I remember seeing a link for a DIY install for these gauges on the FAQ, but I can't seem to find that link anywhere. I'd appreciate it if anyone could spot me that URL of that link and the ^^ knowledge on the questions above.

Re: Indiglos

only pointers I really have is don't touch the needles when you are installing the overlays and try not to bend them, if you get a crease in them where the crease is won't light up.

Re: Indiglos

be extremely careful when installing the guages, i broke my fuel and water temp guage doing mine and had to go to the junk yard to get me some more. it wasnt cheap but i got my car ready to roll all i did was kinda angle them just a bit it mde them easier to slide on but i would not put very much pressure on the needles and i honestly would avoid touching them all together

OK Cool, so they're not that delicate, but delicate enough not to mess with them, I get it...

Anybody have a link to show how to do it?

Re: Indiglos

Really? Hmm, I don't think it will be that bad, but then again I haven't tried it yet. It's a christmas present, my rents just let me see them to make sure they were what I ordered from the Internet.

I believe you can mount the inverter behind the guages and it's just used for inverting voltage from AC to DC or DC to AC... not sure.

I used a volt meter to figure out which wire in the steering column runs to the parking lights and spliced it into that one. Then I grounded the negative to the frame under the gauge cluster. That way they come on when you turn your headlights on.

How can you tell that the wire is the parking light wire by using the volt meter, cuz I'll do it that way.

I put some in my 98 civic ex. I used a test light to figure out which wire powered my dash light behind the gauge cluster. It was on the far left and was a red wire with a black stripe.

A wiring diagram should help you figure it out. On a 92-95 it's a red-black wire, and from what xtant said it seems to be a red-black wire on the 6th gens also.

As has been said, try and aviod moving, bending, etc the needles when you overlay the gauges. GScivic7 already said what happens it youy bend the needle, and if you move the needles around it can result in messing up the accuracy of the gauges.
