Instrument panel/interior lights OFF?

On my 99' GCL, the instrument panel lights and interior lights do not come on when turning the headlights on or when opening any door. The fuse (#17, 10 amp-red) is okay, and replaced with a new one just in case, still a problem.

I checked the doors and rear hatch gate for any loose wiring or connections, but not easy to look for them.

Not too easy to drive at night with no instrument panel lighting. The glove box light is okay, the electronic speedometer lits up okay. When I turn the headlights on, the speedometer dims, which is correct.

I searched the threads and tried a few of the mentions but all else failed.

Anyone got any other clues?

Re: Instrument panel/interior lights OFF?

have u tried the dimmer switch, although it wouldn't cause your head lamps to be off, but might be the cause of the dashlights.

Boy, did I feel stoopid??

I just saw that in the manual and just before reading your post. Here I was ready to tell my wife to take the car in to the mechanic earlier.

Dimmer switch

Yes, it was, thanks. I must have turned it when I was fiddling with the lights. Saved me not only a trip to the mechanic's but total embarassment.

Re: Instrument panel/interior lights OFF?

That's funny....because my wife did the same thing, but she did take it to a dealer because I was out of town for business. Needless to say, they didn't charge her because she made them laugh.
