exhaust leak?

Hey guys...I have a 2000 GS-R and I just got done putting my stock header back on cuz my aftermarket one was making weird noises. I feel no loss of power, hear no strange sounds, smell nothing while I am driving...but when I get out of the car I can smell kinda a burning type of smell comming from the front of the car. Is this just normal or could something be leaking? Thanks.

Re: exhaust leak?

Well you would know if you had an exhaust leak, your engine would sound louder(or it would sound louder under the car) and you would most likely smell exhaust.

As far as burning...check your fluids, pop the hood and check for smoke. Did you spill any fluids lately? Does it smell like gas or like the car is running rich, or does it smell horrible...?

Re: exhaust leak?

It could be oil or anything actually that has gotten on the exhaust manifold while it was off or while it was re-installed. See if it is still doing it after about 2 days. Make sure you are driving it a decent amount though, so that the motor is getting up to operating temp.

Re: exhaust leak?

normal smell after header install. residue from oil or anything that may have gotton on the exterior of the header is just burning away. should go away within the day.
