97 Taurus Heater problems

I have little to no heat in my taurus, I have flushed the heater core twice. Yesterday, after driving for almost an hour, the heater started to throw hot air, but as quick as it started, the air turned cold. Temp gauge reads normal, but sometime if stopped at a light, the gauge will start to climb, when I start driving, it goes down. Is this a possible water pump problem, if so, where can I get directions on replacing it. Or the heater core, even though the water coming out when I flushed it is clear. Also, If I have the car running and the reservior cap is off, it will eventually overflow. Is this an indication of air in the sytem? and could that be the problem. If there is air in the system, how do I purge it?

Check the steel lines running up the fire wall from and to the heater core maybe there rusted and almost closed. The water pump may also be going. I replaced my steel lines in my 99 Taurus coming from and going to the heater core and it sure help me with more heat. I used Gates heater hose 16mm and Gates connecting elbows to follow the old lines tract. Hope this helps........Ed
