HELP! 1995 Jeep Wrangler overheat erratically

Hi,

I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler and it tends to overheat erratically. It happens somtimes when I come to a complete stop or when running at high speeds from 50 to 70mph. Sometimes it doesn't happen for days. One thing I notice when it happens is, when i have the heat blowing, it would start to blow out cold air and the thermostat/temp guage would immediately go to hot/overheat for about 10-15 sec. then it would go back down to normal as if nothing was wrong as I am still driving. I had the water pump replaced last year for I think the same reason. Can anyone help me? Thanks so much.

So with the new water pump, did the thermostat get replaced also? If not, that could be the issue.

But what I'd look at first, is your radiator. At 10years, it may be somewhat restricted. There are several posts in different forums with cooling problems like yours. Find a reputable radiator shop and have them flow test your radiator. They may be able to flush it also, or you could always buy a new one.
