race gas

i was with my bro the other day and we filled up some jugs of 100 octane race fuel for his atv's he had about 4 gallons left.he told me to put it in my truck
would 100 octane do anything to the 02 sensors or be harmfull
i didnt think so b/c it was only 4 gals and not a full tank?

he said that i should but 1 gallon in everyonce in a while (to use like a octane booster/injector cleaner)
it cost 4.25 a gallons

Re: race gas

He couldn't be more wrong.
Your engine management system is NOT designed to recognize any higher octane than was it was tuned for. Your engine was tuned for regular 89 octane fuel. It will not perform any miracles nor clean any injection system. It will also not provide any performance value.
It is plainly and simply a waste of 4$

Octane refers to a fuels resistance to combustion under compression. The higher the number the better it resists premature combustion. This is good for high compression engines where the fuel ignites too soon because of the high compression. If your engine is not pre-igniting, you do not need higher octane fuel. So, like the previous post says, higher octane fuel = waste of money. Also, I kinda doubt that the 100 octane is doing anything for the ATV's unless they are modded high compression engines.

BTW, diesel fuel is very low octane, in the 40 or so, since diesels ignite by compression only.

Racing gas

The previous posters are correct; high octane gas is for high compression and turbocharged cars only. A stock Rodeo will see no performance gain.

Racing gas might provide a benefit as an injector cleaner. I never thought of it as such, but it would makes sense given the compunds in it (i.e., light, solvent-like petroleum distillates.) However, it would be a rather expensive injector cleaner.

Finally, many racing gases contain lead. Just a few gallons of leaded gas will wipe out your O2 sensors very quickly. I think the 100 octane racing gas you see is typically unleaded, but anything with a higher octane rating is typically leaded.
