Wouldn't the XK8 be a better comparison since it's price is almost the same as the 645Ci, where as the XKR costs about $10,000 more?

XK8 or XKR, I would find that decision almost imposible. I'm british, and I adore the svelt lines of the Jag, it looks so beutiful, but the 6 series really looks like something special too. It is in fact, my favorite modern BMW.

The only thing that would really decide this is the country of origin. (I know its sad, but I really love both cars on a similar level) so the Jag would win.

I would probably buy both if I had the space though.

Re: Jaguar XKR Vs.BMW 645CI

i found the XK8 not suitable for this comparo because of its modest HP rating of 280-ish..whereas the BMW has 325HP which is suitasble against the 390HP XKR

Dude, there's more to life than HP. I've said this before, but when you compare high-end European touring cars, horsepower and acceleration are the last things you should be looking at.

It's not really a performance thing with these luxury GT's. More looks and quality based. Both cars score very highly in both IMO. I would happily part with as much as it takes to buy either of them.

The difference in HP between the XK8 and the 645Ci is 45 hp, the difference in power between the XKR and the 645Ci is 65 hp.

65 hp > 45 hp

I dont see your logic

The XKR wears some of the 90's sexiest sheetmetal (thank you Ian Callum) but it also rides on a slightly modified version of the Jaguar XJS-12 platform.

It's a fine car, but the 645ci is just such a well put together package that it really shows the age of the XKR. It's time to put the big cat to sleep and let a new coupe come shine.

I do understand what you are saying, The Jag still turns heads today.

All I think, is god help the man who is designing the replacement. S/He has a lot to live up to.
