Why have the Palestinian people put up with such an obviously crooked leader who embezzled millions of dollars of their money?

How did Arafat squrrel away over a billion dollars in personal fortune (some estimates say its as much as $3 billion)? His job did not allow him to earn that kind of salary.

That money was intended for the Palestinian people and Yasser stole it.

When Arafat became leader of the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) 40 years ago, the plight of the Palestinians was not well known. The organisation and the Palestinians were impoverished.
He used terrorism to heighten their profile and further the demands of the Palestinians. To that end, wealthy Arab states shoveled billions of dollars into the Palestinian cause, partly to support them, and partly to try and do what the Six Day War and the Yom Kippur War failed to do in '67 and '73; defeat the state of Israel.

Therefore, if that money rightfully belongs to the people, wouldn't the Palestinans celebrate his passing? Shouldn't they be more angry at him?

I know I would be. Any thoughts?

They loved him because he despised the Jews and Americans (regardless of his Peace Prize "act").

If they cared about money they would go to work and help to stabilize the economy of Palestine instead of burning tires, firing guns in the air, throwing rocks, blowing themselves to pieces etc...
