2002 jetta electrical

havent seen this one discussed. the lights for the heater controls went out all at once. all other lighting is fine. so rather than start ripping the dash apart to see if it has bulbs or if its lcd lighting i pulled and looked at every fuse one at a time and put them back in proper places. the car was needed so i'd get back to it later. when the car was started and moved 5 minutes later the ecp light was on and the brake light was on along with the interior bell coming on as i started to move . i stopped and scratched my head for 15 minutes (was not convenient) and am thinking that i may have to just reset the codes. then i drove off . but ecp and brake light and bell are still on. are there any opinions on this situation. thanks in advance. i later checked codes with odc 2 scanner and none came up

What engine? As for the light, there is a small bulb behind the center fan dial. Pull the knob off (you can use pliers & a cloth if you can't get it by hand). The small bulb is available at most parts stores.

thanks for reply. but is there a different place to read codes than the obd2 connector

No, that connector is the only place. Some Advance Auto Parts & most Autozone stores can perform a basic scan (for free).

final update: found that when i pulled the fuses, some of the systems lost there memory, and by driving over time the systems will sometimes regain the memory, hence when replacing the battery for age, mechanics will now hook up a battery pack through the cigarette lighter to maintain the memories. the brake light and bell went off first and the epc light went out a day later and car runs well now and the original problem of the heater control bulb has also been rectified.. thanks again
