you know mclaren is using mercedes benz engines, and was really successful with honda engines back in late 80s early 90s.

Re: lets compare f1 engines

in 2004 it appeared Honda and Ferrari had the strongest engines and McLaren and Ferrari had the best chassis, since Ferrari is in both of those categories, thats why they won the championship.

Re: lets compare f1 engines

Ferrari has the best total package, but I'd put their engine 3rd in terms of power output and driveability behind Honda and BMW. Here's how I would rank the 2004 spec engines at the end of the year:

1. Honda
2. BMW
3. Ferrari/Petronas (same engine)
4. Toyota
5. Mercedes (would have been below Renault earlier in the year due to reliability problems)
6. Renault
7. Ford/Cosworth (same engine)

For fun, my rank of chassis/aero packages:

1. Renault
2. McLaren
3. Ferrari
4. BAR
5. Williams
6. Toyota
7. Sauber
8. Jaguar
9. Jaguar
10. Minardi

Re: lets compare f1 engines

I think Ferrari has the best engines. Why?

For example in Monza 2004: that was the first time in the season when they changed the mapping of the engine so it would deliver the power it was designed for. So before that they just drove with less power and still dominated the grid in an amazing way.

Have I forgotten to say the Ferrari engines are extremely reliable?

Re: lets compare f1 engines

Unfortunately, I think Ferrari has the best of everything, and that goes for the engine as well...however I think BAR is a close second, then BMW, and then Toyota...we'll see if anything has changed though this year!
