Honda prelude 97 ..WHat the!? Help.

Well, Initially I thought my problem was a motor mount was wrong with my car, because the thing was vibrating like a monster.

Well a local shop quoted me for 2 Front ball joints that were "destroyed" and 2 new tie rods , and claimed it was "alot of front end work, that needed special order parts"

well point being I was quoted at $1800 dollars. Is that insane?

Yo, the ball joints were also a recall on the 97' lude, after a certain number of miles, you get a free replacement, see if they have been done on yours!! any honda dealership will tell you if you give them your VIN number... that sounds outragiously expensive anyways, im not sure how much tie rods go, but i thought around 150 installed, and i know the ball joints are only around 100 installed, hope i helped

i checked my vin, it had already been done, check this list they want me to fix

The exact estimate calls for:
(2) Tie rod ends
(2) outer tie rod ends
(2) upper control arms
(2) Lower ball joints
(2) Upper Ball joint
(2) Sway bar link kit
(1) Stabalize bar
Alignment

Is it just me or do they want me to get a whole new front end? $1800

did you get in an accident or what? control arm parts i believe are about 100 bucks a piece, ball joints about 100 each installed, sway bar link kit is like 20 bucks , it looks to me like it shouldnt be more than 1000$ with labor, just my 2 cents

Re: Honda prelude 97 ..WHat the!? Help.

Definitly seems like something had to happen for all those parts to have to be replaced! How long have you had the car for? I mean, either you did something really bad to it and didnt realize the effect of what you did, or someone may have possibly hit you without you knowing? I mean, you cant just mess up or bend the control arms driving the car to hard, ball joints have already been replaced you said,so they shouldnt be giving you problems, just doesnt seem right... something must have happened sometime alone the lines
