revving your VTEC

how much high revving is considered ok for these vtec/honda engines? I know these motors are made for high revving but how much high revving/racing is okay? I mean 7000 RPM is a lot of wear and tear isnt it? i love racing my car but also get nervous cus it's my baby.

honda/acura vtec engines are ment to be revved high, so its cool to do it. Just dont be gay and redline it in 1st after every stoplight

Re: revving your VTEC

i think we, as car owners are overly worried about our cars and making sure they're in good condition and nothing happens to them. like he said, honda engines are meant to be reved high (gsr redlines at 8100). but common sense says the higher you rev the engine the more wear its going to put on it. basically, just be smart and your car will be fine.

Re: revving your VTEC

i also worry about the other parts like old hoses and seals and crap. and I dont really rev 1st gear much.. 2nd and 3rd are my favorite gears to rev on the street and 3rd is fun for when entering the freeway and mashing it.

Re: revving your VTEC

1st gears my favorite cuaz it pulls the hardest, but I try and keep the revs low as much as possible now, when I first bought my hatch and got the DOHC ZC running that came with it, I drove the piss out of it EVERY day ALL day long. the roads around here are all empty twisty roads and if I could have been cruising around the corner in 5th Id have it sitting at 6k in 3rd around the bend so when I exited the corner no downshifting required just instant power, basically drove it like I was on a racetrack going for a 1st place finish and trophy/money. had the car for less than a year and its not got much compression and spits a bunch of oil out the exhaust and smokes like crazy. and now the engines in the garage awaiting a rebuild.

just wanted to correct this...

gsr redline=8000 rpm.

and your fellow teg owners are right. not many cars were actually made to race. however, the motor in your teg was put there to be rev'd up towards 8k. so...in other words...its all good....

But the rev-limiter is at 8,100 or 8,200 right?

Re: revving your VTEC

on the tachometer 8000rpm is white. and 8100rpm is red. thats why i said GSRs redline at 8100. the rev limiter is higher than that i know.
