Re: What size Socket, front wheel Hub
I guess that's another tool I'll need to buy. It measured with my calipers exactly 35 mm. And I think I'd get a deep socket - six sided. I'd also get an impact socket, 1/2 inch drive.

Re: What size Socket, front wheel Hub
What I should have said is:
Get a deep 35mm 1/2 drive impact socket. (Before you go to the store, I would also double check the size of your axle nuts in case GM used more than 1 size). |

Re: What size Socket, front wheel Hub
The front axle nut socket is 36mm, there is no 35mm socket.
Just finished replacing the front hub on my '99 Intrigue and I was able to take lots of pictures while replacing the hub. It took me about two hours from start to finish, and that included taking pictures. The job is not hard but there are a few things I wish I knew before starting. Let me know if you need any information on replacing the front hub. Quote:

Re: Re: What size Socket, front wheel Hub
I'm planning on replacing the front left hub this weekend. Post up anything you wished you knew as I'm sure it will help me. Do I need to have the computer reset or anything odd. I'm assuming just plugging up the new ABS plug will be okay. Thanks for any help.

Make sure you torque the new bearing hub nut to the proper specs!

Can you also post torque specs for those of us without Haynes/Chilton's or Factory Manuals?

Re: Re: What size Socket, front wheel Hub
The hub nut IS 35mm on my 2000 Intrigue. 36mm was too loose and 35mm was just right. The deep well hub socket was $13.99 from Pep Boys as Advance nor Autozone had it in a 35mm. Once I had that socket it went very quickly. It took maybe an hour and a half once I had the right tools. I used the pulley puller/flange puller(not sure of the correct name) to push the axle out of the splines in the hub and was able to access the inside facing 3 bolts that hold the hub on much more easily. Got the 3 bolts off and disconnected the ABS plug. Positioned the new hub back in place and hand tightened the 3 bolts back on and plugged in the ABS sensor. I then used the ratchet for the 3 bolts and then put the hub nut back on. My hub was $125 at Advance for the higher quality unit by BCA/Federal Mogul made in Korea. It's a part they stock so I didn't have to wait for it or pay shipping. I don't have any idiot lights and assume the ABS still works as some have mentioned they still have a code after they replaced their hubs.
