I just had a brain storm while reading the JGTC site....

I have a new long term NA engine swap goal for my Z32......

Thanks to the Japanese Racers in that GT 500 class, I see that there is a All aluminum VQ30DE, and DETT out there, I am tring to find weight specs on it now... but its a slow process. I found power specs from a Nissan sight, and its claimed to be around 222HP and 217ft Torq.... Well its about the same as a stock VG30DE but the VQ30DET is a big difference..... 280HP 285lb/ft. That engine is found in the Japanese Cedric/Gloria. I am thinking if the engine weighs a good deal less than the VG, which I am sure it does, about doing a VG30DE to VQ30DE swap. I just need to find out all the wireing and technical info on this then get started on the pricing of it all and begin the saving and shopping list making, and blue printing.

If I could shave 100lbs out of the front of the Z32 I can make it a almost 50/50 weight balance.

Oh and I found this sight for those of you who always wondered what the engine codes mean..... here you go.

Re: I just had a brain storm while reading the JGTC site....

Would be something... I've always wanted to swap a VQ30DET into a Zed32... But Y33 Glorias arent cut up too often for parts, kinda tough to find, even for me.

I'll make some phone calls for you Hodo, maybe something will turn up, but I doubt it.

O... Their figures are off for the VQ30DE... That only pushes out about 190bhp stock spec. But the VQ30DET sounds about right.

Maxima wasnt made in Japan...

That would be the Cedric, the American version of Cedric is Infiniti I30, and Maxima. Both share the same VQ30DE spec engine, which by the way is the same USDM and JDM.

hmm dont know what their getting there numbers from... could be a typo. Or they could be the actual numbers at the flywheel? Who knows. I will have to get a closer look at the engine and the system set up on one... what years Maxima/I30?

i didnt know they carried on the VG until 2001. thast crazy. i thought it died when the z32 died along with the infiniti complement.

they put in their trucks in 3.3L form until 2001. why the hell hasnt swapped a VG33ER into there z32??? that is a v6 3.3 liter that is supercharged and what im thinking is that it cant be that hard to get to slide into the z32 engine bay beings it is essentially the same engine. i must be missing something. 1via, i think its time for you to break out of the researching skills. i have a new project for you.

i know its not pushing a lot of HP but imagine the potential. bigger engine, lower compression and a supercharger to fiddle around with. this all could only mean one thing.

Are you talking in America? Didn't they make the ZX (or fairlady to them) in Japan until '01?

If you guys promise not to tell, I'll let you in on a secret. Most of the top pro cars were using 3.3 blocks and cranks with VG30DE heads. Now there going to the VH and VK45DE engines as there lighter and only a few inches longer. Same width, but loads more power and still carries the Nissan name.

Re: I just had a brain storm while reading the JGTC site....

Gringo you have to get me some lists on the parts required for a VK/VH swap. I am vaguely interested. I would love to see some pic.... may have to try and find some on the internet. Now to sift through 100k in sites.
