85 Honda Crx Hf

I own an 85 Honda CRX HF.. I am attempting to resolve a problem which my local mechanic was unsure of himself.

The problem is when under "load" or going uphill (I live in mountainous area) the engine seems to lose power and I can barely get it up the hill. It coughs and sputters...I think it is either faulty ignition or more possibly a faulty carburetor. I had the fuel filters changed and the ignition system "scoped" with nothing significant found. New plugs, wires, etc. installed a few months ago.

Has anyone had any experience with this on a similar Honda? Any suggestions out there?

Other than that it is a great little car.
