99 Taurus Coolant Light and Multi-Function Switch
I have a 99 Taurus (24V DOHC) and my Low Coolant light is on. I checked the coolant but it was full. The Dealer said I probably had a bad sensor. Has anyone else had this problem? Will I damage my car if I do not have it replaced?
Also it seems the multi-function switch needs to be replaced. My wipers randomly come on when the off switch is on sometimes when I make left turns or sometimes when I move my steering wheel (changing lanes, making left turns). I figured it is the MFS because I had a 99 Explorer that had the same problem. Then the car was in warranty and the Dealer repaired the problem. Now my Taurus is out of warranty and I wonder how many of you have had this problem? If you got it fixed how much did it cost? Thanks Mike |

I had the same problem with the check coolant light. It will not damadge anything even if you don't replace it. I was going to replace it but called the dealer and you have to buy the coolant reservoir to buy the sensor. Figures, the sensor comes out but you need to buy the tank, sounds like a money grab. Anyways enough ranting, I just took of the tank and dissconected the plug to the sensor, presto no more low coolant light. It's real simple, one nut, one screw, disconnect the sensor and presto.
Multifunction switch is a common problem, I am starting to see problems with mine. If you need more instructions to dissconnect your sensor, let me know, I can probably take my digital camera out and send you something. Denis |
