Misfire on #6

I'm having the same problem many of you have had with engine miss. It's an '02 Sable with 56k on it. V6 dual overhead cam.

I took it to Autozone, and they hooked it up to the computer and said #6 was misfiring. I replaced the spark plug and it didn't help.

How do I get to the coil as it seems to be tucked underneath intake tubes and the firewall. Anybody care to document how to do this? I can't even find a Chilton's book to diagram it.

If I can't do this myself, how much would it cost to have a mechanic do it?

Thanks,
Bil

My #6 on my 24v DOHC Duratec is located on the front driver side of the engine. The little connector that plugs into the coil actually has the plug location written right on it.

Anyway, I removed the coilpacks from the front 3 plugs and thoroughly dried them out with a blow-dryer, I dried both the coilpack and the plug hole. I then applied dielectric grease (sp?) to each plug connector and coilpack connector. I replaced all of the coilpacks and all seems to be well now (it's been a week). My check engine light even reset after 3 full warmup cycles (driving the car 3 times and letting it reach full temp each time).

It is very strange that everyone who runs into this issue seems to have this issue pop up at around the same mileage. My 00 Sable had just turned 55k when this happened to me. Hmmm...

Well, give it a try, and I hope it works for you.
Mike

Still misifiring.

I replaced the coil and the #6 wire. I previously replaced the #6 plug also. I would have replaced all the wires but I already had the car back together. The car is running much better, but still missing at idle under load (in drive with brakes on). Any other ideas of what it could be?

Thanks,
Bil
