My 95 Escort Is Stuck In Park, The Car Was Just Given To Me, It Sat For 2 Years In A Driveway Without Even Being Started. So I Put In A New Battery So That It Would Start And Now It Wont Come Out Of Park. I Heard That There Is A Wire Under The Brake Pedal That May Be Disconnected But There Was Nothing There That I Could See. Any Suggestions Would Help. Please Please Help Me, I Dont Want To Tow It!

Re: Stuck In Park
There is a solenoid that locks the shifter into park that when the brake pedal is pressed, the solenoid releases the shifter allowing you to move out of park. My wife's car did the same thing and I realized that she spills coffee all the time and it gummed up the solenoid. Remove the shift bezel and clean out all the mechanisms you find with some mild degreaser and hit it with some WD-40. You sure my wife didn't get ahold of your car for a while?

Re: Stuck In Park
Quick trick you may want to look into:
This happened to a car I was working on when I worked for Leesburg Honda. Try pushing it forward some more. It was something weird with the car I was working on that it didn't engage all the way and I don't understand it myself. Learn something new everyday

Re: Stuck In Park
On every automatic car there is an over ride button for the tranmission. There should be a small black square around your shifter. Pry this out using a small screw driver. Start your car and push and hold the button down, this should allow you to move gears. You can let go once you switch gears. This button is there for factory shipping, it allows you to turn off the car and then move the tranny into nutral. Be very careful though because if its your brakes that are not working properly it could be very bad very fast.
