working on a 68 camaro and everytime i turn on power for the ignition or lights...the power gets grounded off somewhere. i've unhooked the junction behine the fuse panel and ran direct power from the battery to the positive (red) wire on the fuse panel (to eliminate any possibilities of a short under the hood). power is still getting ground off somewhere when i turn on the power. i have only isolated it to somewhere in the dash....and since i don't have a wiring diagram....i'm pretty much working in the dark. i was wondering if anyone has any idea what the problem may be. i'm was thinking it was my ignition switch...but power gets grounded off when i try to turn on the head lights.

I just experienced the same problem in my 67 camaro convertible.
Short was actually internal to head lite switch. replaced switch and problem went away. I have also replaced the neutral safety switch as well as the turn signal switch. good luck, PJ |
