i've recently acquired a problem within the last few days or so. I own an 87 pickup 2.4L, 4 banger, 5spd, Fuel Injected. I've had my fuel filter and fuel pump changed about 5-6 months ago. What is happening is that when first start it up, it idles at the correct RPM, but seems to surge or misfire at times, but im not sure if thats what it is. I was driving to skool this morning, and about 5 mins away from my skool, the problem went away.
I almost thought it was a vacuum leak of some sort. I checked all hoses from the throttle body and no cracks were found, all in great shape. Another thought came to mind was possible water in the fuel, so im gonna pour some gas line antifreeze into the tank when i get home from school. It was more pronounce after i changed the alternator belt the other day. BUt the thing is, is that it is intermittent, so im somewhat reluctant to bring it into a shop and it might not show up, unless it involves dropping the tank to access the pump, which im not incouraged to do. Is it possible for the pump to go bad that quickly?? The spark plugs are new, correctly gapped. Also, the cap and rotor are new, ignition wires are fine. So i talked to one of my professors at my skool about the problem, as he is quite knowledgeable about cars. So he suggested either water in the tank, or its possible the fuel pump. Can anybody please aid me in finding the possible problem, or anybody who has experienced this b4, I would be greatly appreciated.. I have to commute 2 hours to and 2 hours back from skool each day, and would hate to not have a vehicle that works. Sorry this thread is soooo long, i would rather be more detailed than not give enought info. Please somebody give me a heads up! Thanks guys.
