1995 CV Tranny problems

I have a 95 4.6L CV non police. The shifter all of a sudden feels way loose. Also, it will not go into park. The shifter goes a long way without switching gears and then all of a sudden shifts through all of them. Nuetral is almost impossible to find which I need so I can get my key out. It almost feels like its trying to go to Park but doesn't have enough room. Any and all advice will be great. Thanks, AJ

This could be cause by a broken shifter tube in the steering column, or by the shift cable retainer on the driver's side of the trans. No way to tell wich without looking.
