Hello all I have a 99 silverado that has developed a small problem. First thing in the morning it seems the power steering is stiff. It acts like the old morning sickness that the rack and pinions use to have. After I turn the wheel acouple of times it is fine. I have checked the steering sector to make sure it is tight and the belt and the fluid level both are fine. Any ideas? The truck has the original size tires of factor rims. I don't think this makes a difference but it has the 5.3L 4x4

Fluid Old / Bad
The power steering fluid is gummed/dirty.
Put your figure it in and smell it. Does it smelled burnt. I bet! Get one of those vaccum kits and buy some new power steering fluid. Suck out the old fluid and put in some new. Do this once a week for about a month. Should get better. |

Re: Power Steering Problem
Is this vaccum kit for power steering? or just a generic one?

That.
$26.00 dollar one like from autozone.
You use it to test vaccum. I has a little container that the fliud goes into. It is kind of small but the easy way to get oil out. I use it to suck tran and power steering fluid out. Every 6 months I suck out all the tran fluid and put new in. By doing this my tranmission have lasted over 350,000 hard miles. |
