Looking for some help from an expert

I have a 94 RS camaro and before this car i was into the whole import but after i drove the chevy i could never go back... i also love my color of my car and the great condition its in. In other words my engine and tranny will probley be dieing soon and i dont want to get rid of the car so i was looking for some help on what i need for a new engine and transmssion. I am thinking of going to a junkyard/ebay nothing to new becuase i want to do most upgrades myself and how much does labor cost on putting a engine in because i dont wanna fuck with that shit myself..
thanks

Re: Looking for some help from an expert

well i guess the question is are you looking to just put another sixer in? or are you asking about putting a V8 in?

if you are going with just another sixer, thats kinda risky buisness going with a junkyard motor, unless there is some catastrauphic failure with what you have, i would just buy a rebuild kit, pull the engine out, and apart, and rebuild it yourself. and while youre there, you can do a few little things like put in performance valves, port and polish the heads maybe put in an aftermarket cam. pulling and installing an engine isnt that hard, just you need to take lots of pics label everything, and have a cherry picker handy. paying to have the engine swapped is a pretty expencive proposition, probly around 2-3k for that size job. i did the piston rings in a vette and it was a 24 hour job, at 82 bucks per hour, which was just shy of 2k. not including parts. and i didnt have to pull the engine, or disconnect any wiring to do it. when you swap an engine there is a whole shit load of detail work that adds up in the labor.

If you are looking to upgrade to a V8, youll need to find a doner car, with the V8, wiring harness, PCM, all sensors, engine mounts, radiator, hoses, and lots of other odds and ends.
