ford 96 taurus check engine light on
I have done a tune up of my vehicle wich included changing of the wires, spark plugs, fuel filter, and air filter. The check engine light has now come on i have gone to autozone to have a free reading done of the codes and it came back as miss firing of cylinder#4. I have then taken out the plug had it check and put back check wires and put back but light is still going on. Can anyone please give me some advice. Thank you!!!!

I am assuming the light came on only after you performed the maintenance.
I had the light on before and then performed the plug and wire replacement. However, the light remained on. The reason this happened was because the light for this failure code must be cleared by a code reader, it does not clear with the elimination of the problem. I had to replace my Camshaft Position Sensor last year. The light cleared by itself for this failure code. What this boils down to is that you must be able to clear the code after (or sometimes during) your troubleshooting. The light may have come on if the wire was not on correctly. Even though you have since placed it on the plug, the code must be cleared. If the plug or wire is faulty or marginal, then if you move them to another cylinder you should get another cylinder misfire error. If this happens then you can move just the wire to a good cylinder and see what happens to further isolate between the plug and wire. Then you will need to perform the repair and then clear the codes. I purchased a CarChip module that allows me to monitor many engine parameters, my son's driving habits (speed and braking habits) and to clear error codes. The Autozone store may be able to clear the code for you since you may not have a problem any more. |

Re: ford 96 taurus check engine light on
since the last reply i have since done a step by step on trouble shooting the problem i checked for fire from the wires to the plugs and found everthing ok i then removed the spark plug from the head and connected it to the wire and checked for fire coming out of the plug. when i did this i found no fire from the plug so figure a defective plug. when to autozone and replaced the plug and then i reset the computer (to reset computer all you have to do is removed cable wires from battery wait 1min and replace) well since code is gone and car works fine hope this helps anybody
