How Do I Remove Weather Stripping..??

How do you take off the stripping on the windshield and back windshield?? I'm trying to do this to no success. I need to take off the top and bottom in the back, and the top one on the front windshield in order to do a satisfactory job of painting them. They are badly sun faded.

pull harder.

seriously, they are just clipped on. just be careful not to kink them. If memory serves, you will have to take the side trim off first and those are riveted in place.

Re: How Do I Remove Weather Stripping..??

I painted mine before, and I think that youd be better off taping around it... especially considering what flewthecoupe said. Taping isnt too tedious, I used masking tape and garbage bags. it was fine.

Re: How Do I Remove Weather Stripping..??

Hey guys, thanks.. I can't do anything today cause the rain, but i think i'll be able to get em off once the side trims come off like flewthecoupe said. As far as taping it off, i already did that with my door handles-came out pretty good then i noticed a got some on my doors YIKES. I had to use some meguirs scratch out AND wax to bring everything back to par-basically i sucked at that. BTW, i did do that already, taping off and using glad garbage bags. If i can take off the trim though, it'll be much easier to sand before i spray them.

Re: How Do I Remove Weather Stripping..??

true true, let me know how it comes out, and if you take it all off, let me know how difficult it is. If it aint too bad I might re do mine, I think I need to do a better job sanding.

Re: How Do I Remove Weather Stripping..??

I did not want to do this.. Because, there is a product called Forever Black, which is a dye that you apply-and it turns it black again.

it's at www.jcwhitney.com for like 11bucks or so. i'm gonna wait to get it though, i'm broke :-)

Re: How Do I Remove Weather Stripping..??

You need a moulding tool to remove the mouldings from the retainer clips. Your local auto supply store should have them or go to this website to see what they look like. http://www.atrim.com/Page50.html The windshield and rear window have the same type of retainers holding the mouldings on. Your friend at the local junk yard can show you how to remove them.

Re: How Do I Remove Weather Stripping..??

Id be scurred to just yank the hell out of it. I accidentally kinked the weather stripping on the doors under the windows when I had to slim jim my car about 8 times in a week because i was smoking too much weed and locked my keys in the car so much. they look like crap now, its stupid... I would want to avoid that possibility.
