DTC P0411 - What does it mean
So much for the Honeymoon with my 2001 Passat. The MIL light came on again last night. The first time it came on, it was during a test drive and the small vacuum hose was busted..obvious fix. Bought the car 3 weeks ago, now the MIL is on again. Took it to Auto Zone, hooked up the OBD scanner, and it returned a P0411 code. I believe it it related to the air induction system. Luckily, I'm still under dealer warranty for the next 5 weeks.
The car runs great otherwise. Any help would be appreciated. I'm definitely going to invest in an OBD scanner, looks like VW and MIL goes together... |

That'a a Secondary Air Injection code. Basically a small air pump that injects into the exhaust manifold. 1.8T or V6? Check out the VAG-COM scanners before you decide on a cheap OBD-II. They can service much more of your VW, but they are only VW.

Re: Re: DTC P0411 - What does it mean
Thanks Bosch. That's exactly what is was....
One other question though, where can I find a complete VAG scanner? Should I buy the software through the main site (can't remember their names), or should i try to get a unit? I'm looking for an affordable VAG unit to use like the OBD II scanners. You're right, VAG is much better with a lot more codes. What basic system would you suggest? |

Re: DTC P0411 - What does it mean
I assume you're asking which interface cable to get. I went ahead & paid for a VAG-COM interface, actually the HEX-CAN as I figure I'd start seeing the new CAN cars soon. There are alot of other people making interface cables, just look on eBay. VAG-COM software is officially shareware, but you have to register it fo $99 to get the full functionality. Any properly constructed cable will work, but if you buy someone elses don't expect Ross-Tech to help with tech advice. OBD-II scanners cannot access all aspects of your VW. They are only designed to look at a small portion of the engine management system required for ensuring emmission compliance. They do not cover transmission, ABS, air bag, climate control, body controls, .... Also, this is just a way to access the car's diagnostic systems. You should get a good repair manual, I suggest the Bentley.
