Re: 1996 ford taurus tranny problem
How many miles does your car have? When was the last time the tranny fluid and filter were changed?

Re: 1996 ford taurus tranny problem
this is the typical failure of the AX4S, it is caused by a piston inside the transmission to warp and not move on its own.
It requires a rebuilt transmission

Re: 1996 ford taurus tranny problem
It amazes me that ford could not have designed a more reliable tranny for the taurus. Correct me if I'm wrong. The taurus was redesigned in 95'. Since then the tranny has been pretty much the same correct? In that time they couldn't fix the problems?!? I've heard of a lot of newer taurus' having tranny problems. I mean for this to be "typical" is just bad. (Sorry, I had to vent, my taurus has 55kmi and that seems to be when the tranny problems start. so far so good though.)
