BMW MINI One and Cooper

How many of know what car came in 2nd in the balloting for Car of the Century? The Model T Ford came in first. Give up? The car was the Mini. Now, BMW has produced an updated version of the original British Mini, and it will be available first in the UK starting July 7.

That is really great news for the Europeans! Especially British.
But when will it be available in the US?

The mini 1 will have 90hp, and wont be available in North America. The Cooper has 115hp, and the Cooper S will have 160hp. Very neat little cars.

If I get a job, I'm going to be getting an original mini.

Is there anyway to order a car in Europe for delivery to Texas now, before the scheduled export to the US next Spring?

It depends. E-mail NHSTA and the EPA to find out what their policy is on them.

Depends on what? Either you can or your can't buy a mini in Europe (any particular country) and ship it to the US now before the car is being imported on a major scale? I'm looking for someone that knows the answer!

If it is the same, and they have done all the tests on one, then there is no problemIf, however, it has not gone through all of the tests, you wont be able to easily import it. You could probably order it, and once they have finished with crash and emissions tests, you could register it.

I've seen many around now... they look pretty good (not as girly as you'd think, sorry all female users out there )

According to magazine and TV tests they are also supposed to be very good to drive, very accomplished and well engineered vehicles..
BMW does it yet again. what a surprise!

cheers
jay

Teh guy who tested them for R&T put in his order for one! Thats a pretty good endorsement. All the reports love it, they just want more power! I would also like a little less weight.

I am a HUGE mini fan.
I will reserve some of my new judgement on the new mini until I see comparison tests (those help to point out weaknesses)

But look at the original mini: Won the Monte Carlo rally 3 times overall, beating cars with much more power. Won sedan races the world over, again, beating more powerful cars. Peter Sellers owned 10. Countless people have called this the most fun car to drive- ever!
So I think my enthusiasm is justified:alien2:

I don't want you to get too excited, but every review so far has said it's more fun to drive than the original. It's quite a car.

cheers
