Question Flywheel

I was wondering if you go with a lighter flywheel do you have to balance it so the crankshaft and all the drive belts are balanced or do u just bolt on the flywheel and it will be fine and not off balance anything?

Re: Flywheel

A new flywheel is balanced. Why do you want one?

Re: Flywheel

If flywheel companies were selling unbalanced flywheels, they would be out of business long ago. Think about it.

Some poeple balance the crank, rods, pistons together. Some throw the flywheel on for good measure. You rarely here of DSMers doing this.

Re: Flywheel

i just trade my old sunroof, for a used fidanza flywheel 9lbs for the 7-bolts. the guy told me i have to take it to a machine shop to see if it still balanced, and i have to change the inner plate.
Do you have an idea about how much i have to pay to have that work done?

Re: Flywheel

You can change the friction surface yourself, they are 50-90 dollars, I dont recall exactly what the fidanza is. You dont machine those flywheels, you just replace the material, which should bring the step height back to 610 or whatever it was originally. I dont know what they charge to balance them, but it cant be much. 20-40 dollers perhaps.
