from d16y7 to d16y8,correct me if i'm wrong but i think you are going from non v-tech 106 hp sohc to v-tech 127hp motor, in that case why waste the money unless you have the motor laying around, even then i suppose you must be very bored.
$300-$450 just for 21hp's, Hmmmm! save money for a better motor such as B18

First off all, that comment had nothing to do with this thread is anyway whatsoever.

Still, you can't just see the HP gain figures, you must look at the whole picture. First off, some people arn't made of money and can't afford a swap, or just don't want to. Even then, let's break the numbers down.

You said that a mini-me y8* head swap will run around $300-450 total with a HP gain of 21HP. Break the numbers down. At that cost, if the head swap costed $450 you are paying $21.42 per hp gained at the crank. If the cost was $300 you are paying $14.28 per hp gained @ the crank. Sure the total power overall is less than a full engine swap, but someone on a tight budget has to consider all of this.

Now lets say you can buy and have a B18B1 swap completed for $3000. A B18B1 is 142HP. That breaks down to $21.12 per horsepower total for the motor swap. The cost per HP gained over the stock 106 is $83.33 per hp gained at the crank!!! Sure, it's a better based motor and is considered by many to be the best motor to boost, but the costs can't be forgotten.

If you are looking into a GSR swap. If it costs you $3500 to do the swap, that breaks down to $20.58 per total hp overall. The cost per HP gained at the crank is $54.68. Still much higher than $14-$21 per hp gained.

Now let's say your target hp goal is 170hp. A gsr is some minor mods can reach that N/A, an LS turbo can go way more. However, that doesn't factor in the cost of the extra mods, the turbo the LS, the I/H/E for a GSR.

Now, say it was $450 (we'll use the high number you gave) to do the mini-me swap. After that, you have 127hp@ the crank, which is 111.88hp@ the wheels. It is pretty inexpensive to piece togther your own turbo kit for a D-series if you know what you are doing. Let's say itf costed you $1500 to piece your own turbo toghter for the D motor, maybe even go high and say $2000. Let's assume that this person can install it themselves, as they did their own mini-me swap. Saying it costed you $2000 for that, it comes to $2450 total. Now let's say you are running 8psi and hit 170hp with this set-up. That's a total cost of $2450 for you're turbo'd D. That comes to $38.28.

If your only goal was to get to the 170hp, then this is a much more cost efficent method to reach the goal. Remember, with anything, car mods or otherwise, the best method for one person isn't always the best method for someone else. Many things much be factored in, goals, cost, time, etc.
