gurgling at shutdown

Hi,

The car is a 97 breeze, 2.0L, AT.

After a driving pattern such as a long drive on the highway, then a longish (5mile) low speed drive, and idle for about 30 secs and shut down, the car (the cooling system) makes a gurgling sound, I believe from the overflow bottle. Shorter drives doesnt seem to cause it, though the coolant and oilare up to temp.

temp gauge never deviates, regardless of driving conditions, hills, ambient temps, etc. car has synthetic oil and runs great.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

JMH

Re: gurgling at shutdown

I had that problem for quite a while. Unfortunately, it was a blown head gasket. The car worked fine for months before i finally just fixed it. The tel-tale sign is oil residue in the coolant overflow bottle. Over time your engine will run hotter and hotter as that oil deposits its self in the radiator.

Re: gurgling at shutdown

unfortunately I would have to agree that is ptobably the head gasket. Had exactly the same problem, turned out to be an oil/antifreez mixture in my cooling system. Caused my heater core to rupture, the electric fans did not come on EVER, (cuase there was no fluid flowing in the radiator) when we did finally diagnose the problem had to replace the head gasket, water pump, heater core and managed to save the radiator by manully power flushing it multiple times...
