Life of Truck?
I am looking into buying a Silverado but being a college student i only have around 8500 or less to spend....resulting in a high mileage truck. Question is what is the average expectency of your engines on these trucks and what year??????
Just want to make sure that I get a truck that will last. Thanks |

Re: Life of Truck?
As long as you take care of it and follow the manual as far as oil changes, tire rotation, preventative maintenance, etc. you should get a lot of miles from your Chevy. Oh yea, not drivin like a deuche bag helps to. I know a few people who have destroyed cars in a few months when they could of lasted a good 10 years just by drivin like a jerk and beating on them. I would suggest since your buying a high mileage truck, try to get one from a private owner, I would look for some old guy that just crused it and took care of it. If you buy it off a young guy like u and I you would probably run into some problems. Im sure someone else will reply with better info than me.

Older people tend to take better care of their vehicles. If you find a vehicle that your interested in, I suggest looking it up on www.kbb.com or www.nadaguides.com And make sure the asking price is fair. As long as the truck has been taken care of and you do all the scheduled maintence, it should last. Just for comparison, I bought my truck (2000 Silverado LS 2wd) for $15,000 with 48,000miles from a dealer last March. Prices do vary alot depending on where you live also. Hope that helps.

If you are indeed in Syracuse, go to Sun Chevy website www.usedcarking.com and find link to used trucks. You will see a Pewter '01 Silverado regular cab listed for $11,950 (stock #PT11333). Email me at [email protected] and I will tell you how I got the same truck, at this dealership, for $9K. |

Re: Life of Truck?
these trucks last forever if they are taken care of. Mine is an 88 (pictured below). The only thing that I have really done to it is replace the trans twice, but that was my fault. I am going on 151,000 miles on a 350. I have a friend on our fire department that has an 89 with 279000 miles on the original engine/trans.

Re: Life of Truck?
I've had bad luch with mine, but ya know, one bad apple doesn't spoil the whole basket. I bought mine 2 years ago for $17,500 w/ 45K on it. At 75K I had to replace the head gaskets, then again at 95K I had to replace the entire engine. It locked up. Now it seems to be doing fine (if I can stop hitting deer), so I say go for it. Just find something in your budget.
Oh yeah...I Need to take a pic of my strobes n stuff when I get mine outta da shop. lol

Re: Life of Truck?
If you are in the Syracuse area...I am trying to sell my 2000. It's 4.3l v6, 2wd, 5spd, 8' box, tonneau cover, a/c, cruise. Other than that it's a basic work truck. No power windows or locks. 94k miles. I get 20+ mpg on highway. Body not perfect but looks good. Grey. Needs brakes...got parts for front but no time to do it yet (not sure about rear discs). It does have the infamous rear end "backlash". Can someone give me an idea on pricing? I've done the research on kbb.com and was looking at about $5,300. trucks are popular in this area. Thanks.
