Can't get Spark!

I've been trying to find help with a situation my boyfriend and I have encounterd on his 86 Trans Am. It has a 305 edelbrach that was put in last summer, it was running great for awhile. A month or two ago we started having to knock on the distributor to get the ignition to turn over, that no longer works. We replaced the cap, rotor, distributor, module, coil, it's all new parts, they all test seperately to be good, but when we put them on the car, there is no spark. We tested and we do get current to the coil, but some how something is screwing up and we can't get a spark. The car starts, but doesn't turn over. We've tried all we can think of, I'm desperate to get my car back since he's driving mine until his is fixed-any suggestions?

lol how nice of you, did you change the spark plugs and wires too? And are you sure you have the right firing order with the new distributor?

When you put the module in you used the grease that came with it? Also, if everything is new, you might want to accually take the distribuitor out and make sure the gear accually turns the shaft, My grandpa has a 383 nova that had the same problem and it turned out to be the gear was not attached to the shaft.

Re: Can't get Spark!

test everything again, and like the other guy asked, did you get new cables and plugs, if not get some. Are the plugs gaped correctly? When you put the distributer in the shaft did you turn the engine to TDC and mark the rotor to the distributer cap? Are you sure your not getting spark, have your BF turn the ignitiuon over while you hold the plug to a metal part of the engine, you wont see spark unless you ground the plug, you just can';t hold it in the air. write back.

Last night we suddenly got spark, ended up getting it running, but now this morning, once again, no spark (we took the wires off the cap and no spark is grounding to the coil now) we're lost! Thanks for the suggestions but we're back to square one.

Re: Can't get Spark!

well obviously theres a bad connection somewhere....search every connection with a test light or voltmeter...if it happened once, somethings loose and can be connected properly to work everytime.
