Re: changing fuel pump in a 96 cutlass supreme

it is located in the gas tank, and you need to drop the tank to get at it. First, relieve the fuel pressure if that hasn't been done from a failing fuel pump already, then just drop the tank and go to town.

I had 2 guys change teh pump in a 94 Cutlass, it's kind of a pain in the ass, you really need to be mechanically inclinded or you're in for a long afternoon. You need the car jacked up or on a lift and then you have to lower the tank softly on a jack or by other means, you need the tank as empty as possible, there are several lines to disconnect, but once you get the tank off it's not too bad. you won't be able to do this alone. It's a fair sized job for a decent mechanic, but it'll cost you $500-800 in the shop probably.
