Transmission Problem

have a 97 4runner - 33K miles - having problem shifting from reverse to drive - the car hesitates and then pops into gear after revving engine - any clue to what is going on? if you live in Los Angeles any recs for a transmission repair shop? if you have an idea how much am i looking at to repair?
