Modding 97 Silverado

Well i have a 97 Silverado(350) and was wondering what are some good starting off mods. I want to keep it as quiet as possible but fast as hell. I just installed an air intake. Any help would be much appreciated .

If its the stock engine its a Vortec. They came out in 96 with 250 hp, 335 lbs-tq. For 97, they got a hp bump to 255.

As for some mods, well you got a good start with the air intake. Just the usual bolt-ons will do (headers, exhaust, throttle body spacer,etc.).

If you want to go radical, you can do a cam swap, along with new roller rockers.

Re: Modding 97 Silverado

Throttle body spacer, and a flowmaster 50 will do some good. The 50 isn't as loud as lower numbers. If your really extreme, a new set of exhaust headers will do you good. Consider a port tuner and computer chip.

Re: Modding 97 Silverado

Thanks guys for the responses.I have been doing some research and came up with this list: shorty headers, TB spacer, pulley, and bigger MAS. I want a good 300hp, would i be close the these mods?

Re: Modding 97 Silverado

I wouldn't do the headers unless your doing your exhaust. They'll still have the same amount of pressure through the same restrictive exhaust. Headers with a good catback exhaust, along with the other mods you listed will give you close to 280hp or so. I agree with Rbraczyk, a chip will give you even better HP.

Re: Modding 97 Silverado

...and the gearing in the front end if it is 4wd!!

The things you listed are good. I, as well, would do a full exhaust system and not just the headers. I agree on changing the chip too.

Re: Modding 97 Silverado

Yeah. You can check out Edelbrock, I'm sure they make a set of heads for the truck.

I don't know about using LT-1 heads, but your Vortec and the LT-1 are both 2nd gen block designs.

Re: Modding 97 Silverado

If you upgrade your ring and pinion to a higher gear ratio it would give you better off the line power.
