is a te04h decent turbo?

hey guys i picked up a mitsu te04h turbo with manifold (imma attemp a cut and paste with my stock manifolds flange) and partial downpipe for 20 bux today. it spins freely and has very minimal shaft play from what i can tell. i havent gotten a look and the exhaust fins but the compressor ones look good.

n e how i picked it up from a shop my cousin deals with. he needed a bodykit brought down to him (3 hour drive) and told me he could get me it for 20. This place is a salvage yard type deal and they pull the turbos off anything turbocharged that come in. i guess the guy doesnt like to mess with em so he sells em off fast and cheap.

i did sime mild searching on google and found its prolly from like a dodge daytona or maybe one of those turvo caravans fromt the 80's. what exactly do i measure to find the exhaust and compressor size specs? imma clean it up tongiht and ill take some pics and edit them in. let me know what you all think about this working for my mild (6-8 psi) turbo kit im piecing together. peace

imma clean it up tonight and ill

Re: is a te04h decent turbo?

You measure the inducer and exducer of each wheel. You can't do it with the housings on though. I think your turbo is a 13c, which puts you in competition for the smallest turbo I have ever heard of, besides the turbo on Hal's barstool. Have fun with that. I hope this turbo is a standard mitsu bolt pattern, so you can get a T25/14b when you are unimpressed with this one. Can't argue with 20 bucks though, and I'm sure it will help a little.

Hey, if you don't put it on your car you could definitely sell it on ebay for $100 . Or you could make it a cool bookend or lamp .

Some of those small turbos (9x through 13x) have an offset turbine inlet hole. Doesnt mate up well with the DSM manifold. The bolt pattern fits, but the hole is small and restrictive. It should do 6-8 psi no problem! But a T25 would be a cleaner solution, you can pick those up for 50-150 bucks. 14Bs work too of course. But you might as well try this out, like wagon said you can upgrade later.

Re: is a te04h decent turbo?

well the manifold for it is from whatever it came off of. Im going to switch the header flange to 420a on that manifold and use it. i figured it was pretty small. i did some more research and found 9-11psi is about as high as i want to go on that unless i have a liquid to aire intercooler or something. then i can push upwards of 14-15. i dunno i think it work great for what i want it for. it should spool fairly quick and provide enough boost for my current need. Later on yeah, ill prolly need to upgrade to a 14b or something if i want more boost but it should work for now. i dunno i have gotten a chance to rip the exhaust manifold or downpipe off and clean it yet. when i get a chance ill clean it up real good and post some pics. peace
