Unhappy I... I broke it!!!

Talk about bad luck, I backed my Buick into a parked semi trailer and smashed the back window out. So until the body shop gets everything bent back into shape, I've been driving my Fiero to work. Well, it just got worse. Today I came home, pulled up to the house and my Fiero quit.... just flat out died. Now I have no spark and my engine makes a nasty noise when I try to crank it over. So far it looks like the camshaft gear sheared the key or the distributor drive fell apart. I know I was going to pull the car apart this winter and start rebuilding it, and that old iron duke was gonna go anyway, but I still feel bad. There's something about a Fiero that doesn't run that just makes you feel all sad and alone inside.

86-88 Fiero GT, 5 speed, fixer-upper. Blown motor, no motor? No problem! Rusty unibodies need not apply.
74-79 Ramcharger or 100, slant or no motor - not interested in v8 - Overdrive 4 is a big plus, NO hopeless rust buckets!!!
3Rd gen F body floor pans/camaro door skin (L)

Why is it I see so many "Proud to be an American" bumper stickers on the backs of cars made in Japan or Korea??????

Re: I... I broke it!!!

have you checked your fuses, my brother has a 86 Trans Am, we was at a gas station and his car just started clanking and quit. then it would just crank. well we checked the distributor and no spark. his car is factory with the electronic distributor, and the rochester quadrajet 4 barrel carb. we know this stuff is computer opperated, so i started checking the fuses, his ecm fuse was blowed. dont know why but it blowed, i popped in another one and she started right up. has run right ever since. funny how something as simple as a fuse can make the car seem like its ready for the junk yard. let me know what happens or if you have a question just PM me.

Re: I... I broke it!!!

The first thing I did was check the fuses. OK, so it was the second thing, the first thing was to release an entire string of profanity at it. The ECM, TBI and Ignition fuses are all ok and there is 12V at the coil with the key on. I also tested the primary coil winding and it's not open so I'm guessing the coil's OK. When you crank it over it sounds NASTY like something is grinding. It's reading oil pressure when it cranks, so it looks like the cam is turning. Since the day I bought the car I have never intended to keep a 4 cylinder engine in it, so I'm not really concerned about fixing it. I'm still going to find the problem and post about it in case the information will be usefull to 2m4 owners who are keeping their car stock.
