RHD conversion questions

i got a steal on a 92 hatchback, and im gonna order a clip as soon as i sell my bike....my question is this:

is it easier to cart the chassis off to a body shop, and let them weld the clip on, or swap everything over myself? i know I DONT HAVE TO GO RHD, but this is the first time i can actually afford to do it

if i swap everything over....can i leave my suspension in place, and jsut swap wiring harnesses, both dash and engine, and the steering rack and accessories?

im no stranger to engine swaps, and a friend has done a very successful redtop sr swap in his 90, which got me hooked in the first place

im a honda guy by nature, and still have two, but this is my first 240sx

peace and TIA

i wouldnt cut the frame and weld on the clip

the engine fits perfectly in the bay it was made for the car

new mounts would be used

wiring is the only thing really, the ecu, small things too like the battery

the radiator tubing needs custom elbow to use the usdm one

RHD would be expensive/difficult to install i think not sure

Re: RHD conversion questions

hey man.

if you really wanted to go rhd, it would save you a lot of tylenol to just have it sent to a bodyshop. to do it at your house, you would need to convert the firewall...which would be one gigantic pain in the ass. you would also need to convert the dash. not to mention if you wanted to be 100% legal, you would have to get the correct bumpers cause japan has different safety standards than we do or something like that.

i would personally just take the engine/tranny/ecu/all that stuff, and just swap it into your car. My buddy did the swap and it didn't take him that long. if you decide to swap the engine in yourself, i'll get the website that's really really helpful from him. either way, good luck, it'll definitly be worth it when you're done.

On an unrealated subject...

What if there was a guy and he was like Jesus. But, instead of dying for people's sins he died for their stupidity. But then all of his followers would be to stupid to build a cross... so he would just slam his fingers in a car door untill he passed out. and when he woke up he would realize that he didnt want to slam his fingers in a door anymore and he just leaves. would peoples stupidity be forgiven? or would the forgivness be temporary since he didnt actually die?

whatever.

Re: RHD conversion questions

To swap to RHD is NOT a bodyshop issue so much. The body is the same. It is NOT a welding issue. You DON'T weld on a clip. You are way over your head with this. Get a Honda Civic.

since i knew the body is the same, and any decent body shop CAN WELD a front clip on, I've seen it done before...with many RHD Hondas, why wouldnt a unibody nissan 240sx be any different...Im glad to see im in way over my head

You reap what you sew!

Welding on a clip IS NOT HOW YOU CONVERT LHD to RHD!! That would be crazy.

Re: RHD conversion questions

you would ruin the structure and safety of the frame if you welded on the clip. You would have to cut the firewall and swap the two...welding the RHD firewall onto your own car. That will keep the integrity of the unibody.

Re: RHD conversion questions

If you have the time and patience and money do something i would do if i had the money. Center drive conversion, i dont know if you have seen the alpine civic si but its crazy. I assume if you were thinking about doing a RHD conversion then your car is going to be somewhat of a show car and a center drive conversion does turn heads. There are a couple pictures i picked up real quick here. http://www.motortrend.com/features/p.../112_0301_alp/
