Well, at 147,988 my 2000 Ford Focus motor finally blew up. I spoke to an engine rebuilder who suggested I would be better off buying a used motor than a rebuilt one because of low tolerances to rebuild, etc.. I ordered a motor from a company in Wisconsin and it just arrived. I noticed immediately that this engine is labeled as a 2.0 16v Zetec and my motor is the standard 2.0 split port. I called the salvage yard and the guy told me that it is the same block, etc.. and that the bolt on accessories are the only difference. He told me that it had something to do with me being from CA (and the emmisions rules) and that the motor would work fine in my car. I'm a bit worried because it looks like a completely different top end. (Spark plugs on top of motor in the Zetec instead of the side of the motor like my split port). Does anyone know if this motor will work in my car? I'm wondering if this guy is just giving me the run around. Thanks a million.

2.0 16v zetec is te upgrad motor of the spi it has 130hp vs your 110hp, unless you get the electronics and tranny for the ZETEC it will NOT work its is 100% different mechanicly

yea.. it is completely different... the zetec is much better but it will not work... a freind of mine was going to do the swap.. and found out after he bought the engine and trans that all the harnesses are different.. and it was going to cost like 800 bucks for the harnesses, computer, etc... would be a fun swap when done.. just if you want to go threw all the hassle of changing all the stuff...

Thanks
Thank you for the prompt replies. That is what I was afraid of.. I doubt the company I bought it from is going to swap me for the right one... I ordered it in September and it just arrived after filing complaints with the BBB and Wisconsin DOJ. Lesson learned on dealing with someone out of state.... Thanks again.

Re: Will this engine work??
can you just have a local yard sell you a SPI motor with about 20-30k on it? they are strong motors

Re: Will this engine work??
you might be able to part out some of the old spi and maybe resell the zetec fro 1k or return it

Re: Will this engine work??
That sounds like a great idea.. Maybe what I will do is look the vin from the motor up on CarFax and try and confirm the mileage when the auto was scrapped. That way I would feel better about reselling the motor. Is there any repair shops that you can pay to test it? I've heard of Dyno's but I'm not real sure what they are. Thanks again.

Re: Will this engine work??
you would need an engine dyno not your typical dyno, and they are hard to come by
